Is HHC legal in Ireland? Updated 2026.
HHC was banned in Ireland in July 2025. What changed, why, and what is still legal.
HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) is illegal to sell, supply, or possess in Ireland from July 2025. The Department of Health added HHC to the controlled substances schedule following emerging psychiatric case data and a precautionary recommendation from the HRB. CBD, CBN, and CBG products containing less than 0.2 percent THC remain legal.
HHC is a hydrogenated form of THC. It produces a mild, alert calm rather than the heavy effect of cannabis. Between 2023 and mid-2025, HHC vapes and gummies sold openly through Irish hemp retailers under the cannabinoid wellness label. Customers used it for unwind, sleep, and as a legal substitute for cannabis.
The Department of Health cited reports collected by the Health Research Board: a small but growing set of psychiatric admissions associated with high-dose HHC vape use, particularly among customers who did not realise the vapes contained a psychoactive compound. The decision was framed as precautionary rather than evidential.
CBN with full-spectrum CBD. Our 25mg CBN, 10mg CBD gummy was built for the same use case: getting back to sleep after a 3am wake-up. Sleep collection.
Full-spectrum CBD oil at 10 to 20 percent strength delivers a calm, considered effect without the psychoactivity HHC had. CBD range.
Possession of small quantities for personal use is in legal grey territory but not actively prosecuted. The pragmatic action is to dispose of any remaining HHC product through a regulated waste route or by surrendering it at a local pharmacy, which most accept under the same scheme used for prescription returns.
